The Consejo Regulador del Tequila (Tequila Regulatory Council) was created 28 years ago with the objective of guaranteeing that the raw materials used in the production process of tequila remain the same that have given notoriety to this drink since its beginnings, thus seeking to preserve quality and promote worldwide recognition of Tequila.
Since 1974, the Declaration of the Appellation of Origin Tequila (DOT) was obtained; it’s the first Mexican Appellation of Origin due to the need to defend the quality of a product linked to the protected area of Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico.
Behind the Appellation of Origin Tequila, there is the Regulatory Council of Tequila A.C., a private sector organism composed of all the sectors involved in the tequila production chain.
Today, twenty-eight years later, the CRT is an organization with great national and international prestige for its achievements, its recognition of the Appellation of Origin Tequila, its presence in more than 120 countries, the evaluation of the Mexican standard (NOM 006 SCFI 2012), the guarantee and high quality of the product, and for its achievement on the integration of the agave-tequila chain.
